The founder of Djerf Avenue, who makes the most insane pajamas, knows how to master her mornings. Obviously.

From how she wakes up to skincare and her one non-negotiable, read her entire morning routine below.

WAKE UP WITH MATILDA Djerf

UPON WAKING

My mornings are holy. I wake up between 5 AM and 6 AM and every single morning I get up and put my robe on. I like to go really slow in the morning. I then go straight to the kitchen and drink a glass of water. While I’m doing this, my dog Rufus gets up too, just in time for his morning treat. He goes right back to sleep after that, while I make my morning coffee.

It’s a single shot of espresso with foamed milk. I know they say to wait with caffeine, but for me, this works. While I sip on it, I read one page from The Daily Stoic. My dad got it for me two Christmases ago, and I re-read it every year.

I also journal. Not every morning, but I try to do it several times a week. Sometimes it’s three things I’m grateful for, other times it’s my intention for the day or just how I’m feeling. It can be short or long—whatever comes out.

SKINCARE

My skincare routine is also a time for me to reflect and take things slow. I usually put my favorite music on and sip a glass of water (preferably with electrolytes).

Before getting into my products, I ice-roll my face, usually while I’m on FaceTime with my mom or still drinking my coffee.

Products I use every morning:

+ Glazing Milk by Rhode

+ Plump Jelly by Moon Juice

+ Jet Lag Serum by Summer Fridays

+ TSC’s Caffeinated Sunscreen

I seal it all in with a thick and juicy moisturizer.

MOVEMENT

Movement in the morning varies throughout the week. It depends on whether I have a workout scheduled with my trainer (which I do three times a week). On days I’m strength training or boxing, I like to keep the morning calm.

On days I do Pilates (I love Pilates by Bryony – use code LAURYN30), I’ll sometimes add a sauna session afterward. I usually go on morning walks two to three times a week for three miles, listening to a podcast and taking in nature.

Lately, I’ve been into challenging myself with new workouts. I recently picked up both running and tennis. It’s fun to challenge my brain with something totally new.

One thing I always do: I walk to work, no matter the weather. It’s only a 15-minute walk, but it sets me up for the day.

PLAN THE DAY

Before heading out the door, I always check my schedule. What I wear usually depends on the kind of day I have. If it’s a board meeting, I’ll put on my favorite suit and heels. If it’s a chill day without meetings, I’ll wear whatever I’m in the mood for.

BREAKFAST

It’s really important for me to get enough protein in the morning—especially since my days are usually so packed.

Some of my favorites:

+ Eggs

+ Overnight oats (packed with protein and fiber)

+ Chia pudding

+ Protein shake

+ Sourdough toast

I love breakfast. On a good day, I’ll have two—one early before movement, and one a few hours later. I never work out on an empty stomach. Whether it’s just a couple spoonfuls of Greek yogurt or a full meal, I always eat something beforehand.

START WORK

My work hours vary depending on the day, but I usually check my email and Slack before heading into the office. I’m normally there between 8 and 9 AM.
